The good

The Amazon Kindle Oasis: ReviewAs already stated, the Amazon Kindle Oasis is the company's lightest and thinnest Kindle to date. Compared to the 6.3 ounces and 7.2 ounces of its predecessors the Voyager and the Paperwhite respectively the Kindle Oasis weighs a meager 4.6 ounces. The new Kindle sports the same 6 inch E-ink display as its predecessors. However, unlike its predecessors the display on this new Kindle is front lit, meaning that it remains readable even in darkness. Additionally, this display packs more LEDs than the displays of the Voyager and the Paperwhite models. The additional LEDs give the display an even glow.
To make up for the reduced battery size, the new Kindle comes with a leather case that doubles as a battery pack. This leather case is available in walnut, merlot, and black. The leather cover(s) increases the Kindle Oasis' battery life from two weeks to an impressive nine weeks.

The new Amazon Kindle has an asymmetric design, which means that all the buttons are placed on one side. This might take some time to get used to; nonetheless, the two-page turn buttons on one side of the Kindle feel stable while the display responds quickly to touch. This makes using the new Kindle a breeze. Also, since this Kindle is lightweight and features an asymmetric design, it is easy to use on one hand. The accelerometer sensor on this Kindle detects orientation to prevent upside down reading.

To enhance the Kindle Oasis' user experience, Amazon opted for its newest Kindle OS. This new OS marks a significant improvement over older versions. For starters, users will no longer have to navigate to the settings menu to access the data syncing. This is because data syncing can easily be accessed from the toolbar. From this toolbar, users can also access airplane mode.

Recently read titles are displayed on the top left of the home screen while titles added to the wish list and suggested titles appear at the bottom of the home screen.

The bad

The Amazon Kindle Oasis: ReviewAlthough the Kindle Oasis has been hailed as the most comfortable reading tablet on the market, it is not without its shortcomings. To begin with, this new Kindle is expensive. Thus is not within the financial reach of most people; the new Kindle Oasis is more of a luxury than a need, especially since it features the same e-ink display as its less costly predecessors. For many it makes more sense to forego the additional LEDs on the new Kindle to save on cost. Also, some feel that the new Kindle's hefty price tag is not warranted, particularly since the new Kindle is not waterproof and does not come with ambient sensors.

The new Kindle sports the same six-inch E-ink display as the Voyager and the Paperwhite 3. Hence, although the screen on the Oasis is of superior quality compared to that on its predecessor's very few people will feel the need to upgrade to the new Kindle.

The asymmetric design of the new Kindle feels a little odd, and may take some time to get used to. Also, apart from screen brightness, not much has changed with the new Kindle. This is a significant drawback given the close to $290 price tag for the basic Kindle. At such a premium price many would have expected a waterproof device, but Amazon does not seem interested in venturing into the waterproof e-reader segment.

Overall

The new Amazon Kindle Oasis is a masterfully crafted e-reader that offers users the luxury that other Kindle e-readers do not provide. Moreover, the new Kindle comes with a brighter screen, which makes it easier to use in dark places. This is in addition to it being lightweight, which makes it perfect for use in any location or situation.

In conclusion, the new Kindle is a premium luxury reading device whose price tag may proof too costly for most.
